Rick Maloney is a 25-year veteran of school board service at University Place School District, with 10 terms as President. He has served WSSDA on the Diversity-Multicultural Advocacy Team, the Resolutions Committee, and 12 years on the WSSDA Board, representing members of Pierce County districts. In 2013-2015, he led the piloting of WSSDA’s Outcome Based Superintendent Evaluation model. He has presented on governance at twelve WSSDA annual conferences, seven NSBA conferences and one international conference. Rick is retired from one career as an Army Engineer and another as a teacher and administrator at classroom, district and state levels. He is the author of two books on school governance, A Framework for School Governance: Assessing Performance and Planning for Growth (2017) and Putting Policy Governance to Work (2018.) He has lectured at University of Washington, Tacoma since 2017 and has consulted since 2006 with school boards interested in enhancing their governing effectiveness.
